Welcome!
Welcome to Oh My Gems, a blog dedicated to gemstones and jewellery. I am so very excited to share my passion and profession with you.
Jewellery for me is tied to some of my fondest memories. From the pair of yellow gold and sapphire earrings my grandfather gave to me over 30 years ago to the necklace I bought in Cambodia, whose material comes from landmines and sales go to help local women. Wearing these pieces simply makes me smile.
Jewellery is often associated with some of our happiest moments and is one of the reasons why I love this industry. Seeing people pick out pieces to mark significant life milestones and celebrations is extremely special. Whether that piece is a gift, a family heirloom or a self purchase (which really are some of my favourites), jewellery holds a special place in our hearts.
I know how nerve-racking it can be walking into a jewellery store. Everything is behind glass and that feeling of maybe I shouldn’t be in here. With that in mind, my goal for this blog is to help you understand what is on the market, why such a tiny object can hold such enormous value and where the industry is headed. I look forward to sharing tips on buying and taking care of your jewellery. All in all, I want you to love and enjoy not only wearing jewellery but buying it too.
There will be a focus on Qatar and the Middle East for a few reasons. One, I am living in Doha. Two, there are talented designers, breathtaking pieces and numerous lovely shops to explore and support. Combine this all with the fascinating history and the region’s love of jewels, there are endless topics to discuss. That doesn’t mean we won’t look at jewellery and gemstones from all over world though. It would be a crime not to explore what is out there.
On that note, if you have any topics of interest, please send them my way. I want to hear what you want to know and/or learn about. In the meantime, connect with me on the socials to stay up-to date here:
